The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is a sensible choice for those in the market for a proper, well-priced, spacious sedan. For 2019, the Ciaz will get a new in-house developed 1.5-litre diesel engine.
The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz has always been a pretty looking sedan. The front-end with its smooth and sleek looking grille, LED projector headlamps and new DRLs, cuts a premium and rich looking picture. The restyled LED fog lamps with chrome garnish surrounding it, adds a more upmarket appeal to the car. Move to the sides and you see 16-inch Precision Cut Alloys which add more style to the car. At the back, there’s a slightly tweaked rear bumper and new LED combination taillights with details, which when lit, look really elegant. The Ciaz has the freshness that looks upmarket. And for the colour options, Maruti has got a handful of hues.
Inside the cabin, the Ciaz feels luxurious with its leather upholstery. The dashboard gets a veneer of birch blonde wood finish and satin chrome accents giving it a posh feel. On the tech side, it has a 4.2-inch Multi-information Display unit that lets the car interact with you, conveniently, keeping track of important information including fuel consumption, trip details, energy flow, driving range and gear shift indicator (MT). It also features Eco Illumination, which means it changes colour with different driving patterns. There’s a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen which is compliant with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It serves a decent sounding audio output and is crisp in operation.
The Ciaz has always been generous when it comes to space. It is Spacious! The leather seats (on top variants) are comfortable and big, and there’s more than ample amounts of legroom and headroom for rear passengers. Cruising on the highway is as luxurious and comfy as sitting in your living room on a couch.
The Ciaz has ticked a lot of boxes when it comes to safety. Based on Suzuki’s Total Effective Control Technology (TECT), the body is efficient in energy absorption and is designed for occupant protection. The Ciaz comes with Anti-lock brakes with EBD as standard, ensuring that if you brake under high stress, the action is efficient and effective.
The Maruti Ciaz also features Electronic Stability Program with Hill-Hold (AT). There’s a seatbelt reminder for driver and passenger both, with dual SRS-Airbags, adding to the safety quotient. The sedan also features a speed alert system to warn the driver to keep an optimum speed. The car does come equipped with ISOFIX Child seat anchorages for the security of the little ones. The Ciaz also comes with rear parking sensors and a reversing camera.
Under the hood, the Ciaz is powered by Maruti's new K15 petrol powertrain which pumps out 103 bhp and 138 Nm of torque. The engine comes mated either to a 5-speed Manual or a 4-speed Auto gearbox. The motor is smooth in operation and scores high on driveability while being one of the most efficient engines out there. In terms of efficiency, the Ciaz's petrol variants are rated for 21.56 km/l for the manual version and 20.28 km/l for the automatic (ARAI-certified figures)
Diesel sipping variants are powered by a Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre DDIS engine which cranks out 89 bhp and 200 Nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. There is no option of an automatic for the diesel engine. The tried-n-tested motor provides adequate punch under the Ciaz's hood. The efficient motor is rated for an economy figure of 28.09 km/l (Arai-certified figure).
Both engines have been paired with Maruti's Smart Hybrid system which makes use of Brake energy regeneration and a Start/Stop feature to enhance efficiency. A new, in-house developed 1.5-litre diesel engine is scheduled to make its debut under the Ciaz's hood soon.
Maruti Suzuki Ciaz price starts from INR 8.81 Lakh to INR 11.02 Lakh.
