Tata-owned Jaguar has been sitting in 4th place behind the 3 Germans in the luxury car space. The XE "baby jag" was launched to compete within the entry-level luxury segment with the likes of Audi A4, BMW 3 series and Mercedes Benz C Class.
The Jaguar XE carries the quintessential Jaguar genetics. Its design is heavily inspired by the flagship XJ. The vehicle has a very understand yet attractive design. There are a lot of small details like the muscular lines, J blade LED headlamps, chrome side vents and Etype inspired taillights which just accentuates the glam quotient of the car.
The Jaguar XE has a well-equipped cabin which feels very well put together. The cabin overall has a very sporty vibe to it and the highlight of the cabin is the gear selector knob which rises out of the central console in typical jag fashion. The car gets a 10-inch navigation enabled touchscreen infotainment system but misses out on Apple CarPlay and android auto. The car also gets an optional 16 speaker Meridian™ sound system which one of the best if not the best speaker setup in the segment. Other notable features of the car include keyless go, Engine stop/start, auto headlamps, rain-sensing wipers and selectable driving modes.
The seats on the XE are quite comfortable and can seat 4 people in comfort. The rear seats have good under-thigh and lumbar support. the leg room is adequate but taller passengers might find the headroom lacking. In terms of storage, the car gets a 455l boot which is on par with the competition.
The Jaguar XE comes loaded on the safety front. It comes with rear parking camera with dynamic guidelines, 6 airbags, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), Seat Belt Warning, Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and Traction Control System.
The Jaguar is sold with 3 engine options in India the petrol variants of the car are powered by an Ingenium 2.0l turbocharged 4 cylinder making 200PS at 5500RPM and 320NM at 1750RPM in the base variant and 250PS and 365NM in the top portfolio 25T trim while the diesel variants are powered by a 2.0l diesel engine making 180PS at 4000RPM and 430NM at 1750RPM all engines come mated to an 8 speed automatic transmission.
The petrol is 2.0l is the obvious choice for anyone looking to buy this car just for city driving with an occasional highway drive. The 25T is the perfect option for anyone who would drive the car more enthusiastically it makes more torque and always has plenty of power on tap even for highway duties. In terms of mileage, all the engines are rated at about 13km/l
Jaguar XE price starts from INR 40.61 Lakh to INR 47 Lakh.
The Jaguar XE is a watershed moment for the brand. While Jaguar sedans have always been stylish and classy, this one has sworn to be an absolute delight to drive as well. The latest compact sedan from the British origin car maker is so good, we would pick it over the 3-series any given day for a fast run around bends. The steering feels lively, the suspension is right on the money and that 2.0 litre turbo petrol engine is just the thing a car this size needs. Well designed, well-equipped, comfortable and an absolute hoot to drive – the driver in us absolutely loved the XE. Here’s our detailed review of this smile monger
