Harley Davidson Road Glide with Milwaukee-Eight 107 engine and Roadster debuts in India

With the addition of two new models – Harley-Davidson Roadster and Road Glide Special, Harley-Davidson India has launched its 2017 line-up. The brand has also unveiled their new Milwaukee-Eight engine. The 2017 Harley-Davidson Roadster and the Road Glide Special are launched in the country for a price of INR 9, 70, 000 and INR 32, 81, 000 respectively. Both prices are Ex-showroom Delhi.

The Harley-Davidson Roadster is the new member of the Sportster family of motorcycles and will be assembled at Harley-Davidson’s plant in Bawal, Haryana. It is powered by a 1202cc Air-cooled, Evolution engine that is equipped with Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection. It can produce 96 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 rpm. The Roadster is available in four colour options that are sold at a price staring from INR 9,70,000 and goes all the way up to INR 10,22,650.

Speaking of the 2017 Harley-Davidson Road Glide Special, it draws power from a new Milwaukee-Eight 107 Engine. This 1,745cc unit is capable of delivering a max torque of 150 Nm at 3,250 rpm. The prices of the Road Glide Special start from INR 32,81,000 and the top-end Hard Candy Custom edition is priced at INR 36,48,875.

The new Milwaukee-Eight engine is ninth in the lineage of the company’s iconic Big Twin engines. The Milwaukee-Eight name pays homage to its 8-valve design (4 valves per cylinder) and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the home of Harley-Davidson and location of the factory where the engines are produced. Milwaukee-Eight engines is offered in two displacements and two variations – Milwaukee-Eight 107 and the Twin-Cooled Milwaukee-Eight 114. The Milwaukee-Eight 107 (107 CID, 1745cc) is employed by the Street Glide Special, Road Glide Special and Road King whereas the CVO Limited uses the Twin-Cooled Milwaukee-Eight 114.

Some new features of the latest line-up are as follows-

  • New emulsion-technology rear shock absorbers on 2017 Harley-Davidson Touring model motorcycles offer 15 to 30 percent more pre-load adjustment than previous standard Touring shocks, with a single knob to hydraulically adjust pre-load.
  • The front suspension features new Showa SDBV suspension technology that is claimed to deliver a performance of a racing-style cartridge fork with linear damping characteristics and reduced weight.
  • MY17 Harley-Davidson Anti-Lock Braking System is now standard across all families – Street, Sportster, Dyna, Softail and Touring models in India.
  • The 2017 models also come equipped with anti-lock braking system, an added feature across all 13 Harley-Davidson motorcycles in India.
  • Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle Performance will offer a selection of performance components for the Milwaukee-Eight engines, including Screamin’ Eagle Milwaukee-Eight Stage I, II and III kits that deliver up to a 24 percent increase in torque over the stock engine.
