BMW Italia and Garage Italia Customs recently presented a custom edition of the BMW i8. Christened as the BMW i8 Futurism Edition, the special edition is part of BMW’s 50th-anniversary celebration in Italy. A press conference for the unveiling of the car took place at the carmaker’s Milano City Sales Outlet. The event was attended by Sergio Solero, President and CEO of BMW Italia, and Lapo Elkann, President and Founder of Garage Italia Customs.
The BMW i8 Futurism Edition will run in the Mille Miglia 2016 following the BMW 328 driven by Sergio Solero. The creators have draped the futuristic i8 with the Italian art of Giacomo Balla and have replicated the ‘Lampada ad Arco’ painting on the car. The original artwork represents a street lamp powered by electricity under the moonlight. The creators of the special edition state that the color technique and the advent of electricity in the 1900s are linked to the future technology of the i8.
On the celebratory occasion, Sergio Solero expressed that the BMW i8 Futurism Edition represents the pairing of a sports car of the future with Italian creativity and art. For the event, they have devised a project with Garage Italia Customs, one of the well known specialists in car customization.
President and Founder of Garage Italia Customs, Lapo Elkann stated that there was immediate synergy with BMW Italia when the two organizations met for the i8 Futurism Edition project. Garage Italia Customs and the BMW brand both share values connected to technology evolution and the continuous search for innovation in their specific sectors. The BMW i8 Futurism Edition is a practice of style. It gave the Garage Italia Customs Maestros a chance to celebrate a car which is projected towards the future of mobility. At the same time, it honours Italian art with Giacomo Balla, who is a prominent figure of the Futurism movement.
