Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Vs Maruti Grand Vitara: Which Will Be The Cheaper Hybrid Offering?

Maruti Suzuki and Toyota are ready to launch their take on the mid-size SUV soon with the Grand Vitara and Urban Cruiser Hyrydyer respectively. One of the biggest points of these SUVs is their strong Hybrid powertrain which boasts an impressive fuel economy of 27.97 km/l! This will surely make the Hybrid variants more popular when compared to the mild-Hybrid variants of these mid-size SUVs. However, did you know that one of the siblings will be cheaper when it comes to their Hybrid variants? Let’s find out!

Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder

The Maruti Grand Vitara is 6 trims namely Sigma, Delta, Zeta, Alpha, Zeta+ and Alpha+ variants. The former four variants are offered with the mild-Hybrid powertrain whereas the latter two are offered with the Strong Hybrid powertrain. In the case of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, it is offered in E, S, G, and V variants with the last 3 variants being offered in the strong Hybrid trim. This means that the Hyryder will have a more affordable entry-level variant for the Hybrid powertrain when compared to the Vitara. The S variant of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder isn’t too bare-bones either. It comes with Bi-Halogen headlamps with LED DRLs and a crystal acrylic upper grille for the exterior.

In terms of interior and features, it adds a dual-tone black and brown theme, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Carplay, 4 speakers, a 7-inch MID, and front and rear USB ports, cruise control, Drive mode switch, and a reverse parking camera. This variant also comes withElectronic Stability Program (ESP) with Hill Hold Assist, Anti-Lock Braking (ABS), Electronic Brake force Distribution(EBD), Dual Airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounts, 3-point ELR seat belts (All seats), and rear disc brakes. In terms of the Hybrid powertrain, the Urban Cruiser Hyryder is powered by a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated Atkinson Cycle engine that makes 92 Hp and 122 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with an electric motor that produces 79 hp and 141 Nm of torque resulting in a total power output of 115 hp. It comes mated to an e-drive transmission. This system is paired with a 177.6 V lithium-ion battery which will enable the Grand Vitara to run on an electric-only range of up to 25km. The fuel economy of the Strong Hybrid variant is rated at 27.97 km/l.
