Hyundai Tucson: The Flagship Hyundai That Punches Above Its Weight!

Hyundai is all set to launch the next generation Tucson on the 4th of August and the SUV is ready to take on the premium SUV segment. Bookings for the flagship Hyundai are already underway for a token amount of ₹50000 and we expect it to be priced around the ₹30 lakh mark. If Tucson launches around this mark, it will be of immense value considering what it offers! Let’s pit it against some higher segment SUVs to understand the value it offers:

Design

Speaking of design, the new Tucson brings in an entirely new design language from the Korean carmaker. The front is dominated by a big dark chrome parametric grille that houses the Hyundai logo and a camera. The LED DRLs are neatly integrated into the parametric grille especially when they are not lit up. The LED headlights are placed lower down in the bumper. This makes the front fascia of Tucson one of the biggest talking points when it comes to design. Compare it to a German SUV like the BMW X1 and the Tucson will turn more heads for sure. Granted that the X1 is an older generation now, however, Tucson will still demand more attention on the road than a ₹50 lakh BMW X1 thanks to its futuristic design while being cheaper. The Tucson is also bigger when it comes to dimensions thus translating to more interior space.

Performance

The 2022 Hyundai Tucson is not just all show, it has the go as well! Speaking about the diesel powertrain, it comes powered by a 2-liter unit that produces 185 hp and 416 nm of torque. It is mated to a 8-speed automatic gearbox. The Tucson is offered with HTRAC All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system along with Multi Terrain Modes (Snow/Mud/Sand). These power figures put it in the league of more expensive SUVs like the BMW X3 which is almost double the price of the Tucson! The added convienience of HTRAC All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system also helps you tackle the rough roads with ease.

Features

It is no secret that Hyundai is known to equip its cars with every feature imaginable. Being the flagship Hyundai, the Tucson comes with a ton of features which you will not see in cars costing as much as ₹70 lakh! When compared to a ₹50 lakh SUV like the Toyota Fortuner, the Hyundai Tucson offers a ton of more features. Not to forget, the Tucson will have superior interior quality as well considering that Hyundai cars usually have the best in class interior quality. The 10.25-inch touchscreen is a familiar unit and it gets navigation, Android Auto and Apple Carplay, Hyundai Bluelink connected car technology and a whole lot more.

The dual-zone climate control features multi-air mode which is a first in the segment. The electrically adjustable leather seats are heated, cooled and also offered with memory function for the driver. The 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster comes with selectable themes and it acts as a display for the parking sensors and navigation. Other features include 64-color ambient lighting, electric parking brake, 8 speaker Bose sound system, hands free tailgate operation, rain sensing wipers and remote engine start with key. It also comes with a passenger walk-in device wherein the rear passenger can move the front passenger seat via a button for increasing the legroom.

Safety

The 2022 Hyundai Tucson is arguably one of the safest SUVs in the Indian market today. It has a ton of safety features to offer apart from the standard 6 airbags, ESC, Hill Descent control, TPMS and ISOFIX child mounts. On top of this, Tucson is the first Hyundai in India to feature Level 2 ADAS capability. It offers as many as 19 ADAS features including Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) with pedestrian detection, Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Lane Following Assist (LFA), Blind-Spot View Monitor, Blind-Spot Collision Warning (BCW), Surround View Monitor, Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist (RPCA), Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA) with Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA) Advanced Smart Cruise Control (SCC) with Stop and Go and Safe Exit Warning (SEW). Compare this to something like the Audi Q5 and you’ll be surprised with the amount of safety kit that the Tucson offers over the German SUV in terms of safety! In addition to this, the Tucson has also scored 5 stars in the Euro NCAP crash test.
