Mahindra Halo EV

Five Mahindra Concept Cars and Bikes that you should know about

Unlike Tata Motors whose stall at every year’s Geneva Motor Show is ripe with concepts, Mahindra doesn’t have too many show stoppers in their arsenal. However, with the Indian conglomerate recently acquiring Pinifarina, the acclaimed Italian design studio, things could change for the better. Until then, here are five of the best Mahindra concept vehicles.

Mahindra Halo EV Concept

Mahindra Halo EV (1)

For a manufacturer who prides themselves on their utility vehicles, the Halo sports car concept didn’t turn out to be bad at all, at least stylistically. It’s Mahindra’s idea of an electrically propelled compact coupe, and a rather well executed one at that. It looks like an Aston Martin glasshouse deftly placed atop a Kei car (which is its measure), and has a range of 200 km. The interiors are well laid out, with a nice flat-bottomed steering wheel that you might want to as the Halo whizzes to its top speed of 160 km/h. There are no plans for production yet, but if and when it does, it’ll surely be THE Indian EV to watch out for.

Mahindra Komodo Concept

The Korando concept is the work of aspiring Indian designer and IED Torino graduate, Makrand Patil, who, along with Veleriy Dimov, designed a Mahindra that shattered the stereotype of the brand’s oddball vehicle designs across the world. The idea was to build the ultimate Mahindra 4×4 for the Indian market, a rugged, stylish and powerful vehicle “that can be used anywhere form silky smooth highways to steep gradients, big drops and deep water.” If you excuse the 9-shaped headlamps and tail lamps, we think it looks mega. With close to 5 meters in length and almost 2 meters wide, the Komodo will surely make the XUV500 and Scorpio squirm on the road. Unfortunately, one hasn’t been built in the metal yet.

Mahindra XUV Aero Concept

XUV Aero (2)

Recently revealed at the Auto Expo 2016, the XUV Aero is how a super XUV500 would look like. Shedding the 500’s rear bulk for a shapely, coupe-like cut, the XUV Aero has been designed in-house at the Mahindra Design Studio in Mumbai. Inside, the concept gets sexier seats as compared to the XUV500, along with a large, free standing display on the dashboard, toggle switches and a funkier instrument cluster. 210 HP, 0 to 60 km/h in less than 6 seconds, and suicide doors round things off. Mahindra e2o Sport Concept

Mahindra E2O Sport Auto Expo 2016 (12)

The e2o Sport concept takes is the cute, environment friendly runabout with some chest hair, and ripped muscles. Built for the track usage only, this electric little Mahindra race car packs quite the punch, as its 80kw power train makes it sprint from 0-60km/h in just 4 seconds, while 100 km/h comes up in 8 seconds. The car also gets a 384V high voltage power pack, blistered wheel arches, a bold body kit, bigger wheels, racing tires, a giant rear spoiler and of course, decals. The concept was displayed at the 2016 Auto Expo, but chances of it hitting the track sometime soon remain pessimistic. Mahindra Mojo Concepts

Auto Expo 2016 Mahindra Mojo Scrambler and Adventure Concept (6)

With the Mojo successfully launched, the manufacturer kicked back and relaxed by flaunting two iterations of the 300cc motorcycle at the 2016 Auto Expo. The first concept was a Scrambler, which sheds the twin exhaust system, exposes its frame, components and gets its rear chopped off to look ready for a street fight. Twin headlamps give way for a single unit that is surrounded in a tubular exoskeleton, while stylish bar end mirrors hang loose. Five shrinking circles climb up in the subframe, whereas a proper flat seat helps the character. The tank remains the same unit found on the regular motorcycle. The second concept was a Mojo with a taste for adventure, sitting tall on larger wheels, knobby tires and a brandishing a floating front fender. A compact headlight unit finds space for two bulbs, while those knuckle protectors save your, well, knuckles.

  1. Im surprised about that cars just i cant blive that in india like that cars
    So nice disgines

  2. ANIMESH SHARAN

The XUV Aero should have a smaller side windows to make it more aero-dynamic and would make it look better like komodo. I think komodo would be a hit and could replace the boxy bolero which is in the market right now. Could give competition to BMW X series. The motorcycles designed by Mahindra needs to developed a lot to gain a place in the market. Those designs are vague and could not survive with the present market condition, although they could be used in some african countries where people have to do more offloading for commute.
