BMW South Africa has lifted the veils of an exclusive, special-edition of the current fifth-generation BMW M5 model featuring subtle performance and visual upgrades. The BMW M5 Pure Metal Edition will be available in a limited number of 20 vehicles from this month (October 2015), sporting a price tag of R1, 948, 000, or INR 92.90 lakh (incl. VAT, excl. CO2 Tax).
Developing 592 bhp and peak torque of 700Nm from its turbocharged, 4.4-litre V8 engine , this special-edition is the most powerful, series produced BMW M5 ever. With a power output which is 39 bhp higher than the standard BMW M5 and 24 bhp higher than the Competition Package, the M5 Pure Metal Edition sprints from 0 to 100km/h in 3.9 seconds and has a top speed of 305km/h.
Power upgrades apart, the limited edition features the Competition Package anyway, which includes a revised chassis set-up with firmer spring/damper tuning and a 10mm drop in ride height. Improved traction comes from the Active M Differential, while the steering’s M specific Servotronic function promises better feedback. Other dynamic aids include Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system with a playful M Dynamic Mode, while stopping power comes the biting M Carbon Ceramic Brakes.
Visually, the special-edition model has been given the BMW Individual treatment, which, in this case involves a special and very expensive BMW Individual Pure Metal Silver Metallic paint and 20” M Double spoke alloy wheels. A plaque bearing ‘PURE METAL M5’ and ‘1/20’ inscription is integrated into the Dark Aluminium Trace interior trim.
Inside, both the driver and front passenger get M Sport multifunction seats, upholstered in full leather Merino Fine grain, black with contrast stitching in Silverstone. Additional features on the BMW M5 Pure Metal Edition also comes standard with the Comfort Access feature with smart opener, Driving Assist and Lumbar support.
