Ather EL Platform Electric Scooter Teased Ahead Of August 29 Launch

Ather is preparing to enter a much bigger part of India’s electric scooter market. The company has now shown the production version of its new EL platform scooter, giving buyers the first proper look at the model before its launch.

The new electric scooter will be unveiled on August 29 at Ather Community Day 2026. The company’s CEO Tarun Mehta shared the production-line image on social media. The scooter looks close to the EL01 concept shown by Ather last year, but the production model has a more practical design.

Ather EL Scooter: What We Know

The new scooter appears to have a metal body, which is different from the polymer body panels used on Ather’s current scooters. It also gets a long seat and a flat floorboard, giving it a family scooter layout.

Some of the visible features include:

  • Handlebar-mounted headlamp
  • Wide LED DRL on the front apron
  • Long single-piece seat
  • Flat floorboard
  • Front disc brake
  • Rear drum brake
  • 14-inch front wheel
  • 12-inch rear wheel
  • Expected seven-inch TFT display
  • Smartphone connectivity and connected features

Ather has not yet announced the complete specifications. The company is also yet to confirm the battery size, range and motor output of the production scooter.

New Platform Will Support Different Scooters

The EL platform is not limited to one scooter. Ather developed this architecture using more than 26 lakh kilometres of real-world riding data.

The platform can support battery packs from 2kWh to 5kWh. It also uses a new silent gear-drive motor, an onboard charger and longer service intervals.

This gives Ather room to develop scooters for different buyers without using a completely new platform for every model.

Price Could Be A Major Factor

The new scooter is expected to cost between ₹1 lakh and ₹1.25 lakh, ex-showroom. If this estimate is correct, it will become Ather’s most affordable electric scooter.

For reference, the Ather Rizta starts at around ₹1.21 lakh, while the 450 range starts at about ₹1.28 lakh. The new EL scooter could therefore give Ather a stronger presence among buyers looking for a more affordable electric family scooter.

Ather has also seen strong sales growth in recent months. The company sold 31,063 electric scooters in June 2026, which was an 81.22 percent increase compared with June last year. Its Rizta has played an important role in bringing more family buyers to the brand.

A Bigger Role For Ather

The August 29 event could bring more than just this scooter, as Tarun Mehta has hinted at several launches during the event. For Ather, the new EL scooter could be an important product because it takes the company into a wider price range.

More details about the battery, range, motor and final price will be known at the launch.
