Earlier this year, Volkswagen gave its popular mid size SUV, the Taigun, a much needed update. A few months later, the facelift appears to be delivering positive results for the brand. Fresh sales numbers show that buyers have responded well to the updated SUV, helping Volkswagen improve Taigun volumes during the second quarter of 2026.
April was particularly strong. Volkswagen dispatched 1,543 units of the Taigun during the month, making it the SUV’s best performance of 2026 so far.
Sales Snapshot
| Month/Period | Sales |
|---|---|
| April 2026 | 1,543 units |
| April-May 2026 | 2,824 units |
| Share of 2026 Sales | 54%+ |

| Q2 Run Rate vs Q1 | +77% |
The improvement comes shortly after Volkswagen updated the SUV with a handful of changes across the range.
What Has Changed?
The overall shape remains familiar, though there are a few updates.
Some highlights include:
- New front-end styling
- Updated LED lighting
- Bigger touchscreen
- Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
- Panoramic sunroof on selected variants
- Ventilated front seats
- Updated digital instrument cluster
A bigger mechanical change can be found under the skin. The 1.0-litre TSI automatic now gets an 8-speed torque converter gearbox in place of the earlier 6-speed unit.
Meanwhile, the 1.5-litre TSI engine continues with the DSG automatic transmission.
More Buyers Walking Into Showrooms
The Taigun has always had a loyal following among buyers looking for strong driving dynamics and solid build quality. The latest numbers suggest the updated version is helping attract more customers.
Competition in this segment remains intense. Models such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Tata Sierra continue to sell in much larger numbers. Even so, the recent rise in Taigun volumes is a welcome sign for Volkswagen.
