BMW has unveiled a new generation of protection vehicles in the luxury sedan segment, introducing a model developed based on the new BMW 7 Series. Combining an unparalleled protection concept with exceptional levels of ride comfort, spaciousness, and advanced equipment features, the new BMW 7 Protection sets a new standard in the realm of secure mobility.
BMW 7 Protection – Armour
At the heart of the integrated security concept lies the BMW Protection Core, a unique feature worldwide. This core comprises a model-specific self-supporting body structure made from 10 mm armor steel, reinforced with additional armor for the underbody and roof, along with 70mm armored glass.
The new protection model is designed to offer customized protection from attacks with firearms or explosives for at-risk individuals. Classified as offering class VR9 protection based on internationally recognized official test criteria, the vehicle boasts impressive ballistic and blast resistance. The glass, for instance, protects against fire from caliber 7.62x5Li R ammunition, a threat from the highest civilian resistance class VPAM 10.
The car also features run-flat tyres that can go on for up to 30km when fully flat at a max speed of 80 km/h.The vehicle will be manufactured at the BMW Group Plant Dingolfing using an elaborate “craft manufacturing” process.
Powertrain
The BMW 7 Series Protection is equipped with the latest-generation V8 engine and BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, the vehicle delivers maximum output of 390 kW/530 hp and peak torque of 750 Nm (553 lb-ft). It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 6.6 seconds and boasts a top speed of 210 km/h (130 mph).
