One of the prominent European carmakers, Renault has unveiled the concept model of the Rafale SUV. The design elements and nomenclature of this SUV feature the resemblance of an old fighter jet. The renowned Rafale fighter jets boast the capabilities of fighting power and speed. We can expect that the new Rafale SUV will be pampered with these aspects for appealing to the audience.

The Platform and Dimensions of the Renault Rafale
The all-new Renault Rafale will be based on the new CMF-CD modular platform. This platform shares its underpinnings with other SUV models such as Austral and Espace. The carmaker claims that the new Rafale will also feature a plethora of space in its cabin along with comfort. Dimensionally, the new Renault Rafale SUV has a 4,710mm length, 1,860mm width, and 1,610mm height. The SUV has a 2,740mm wheelbase and 180mm of ground clearance.

Design and Aesthetics of Renault Rafale
The new Rafale is a flagship model in the portfolio of the carmaker. Gilles Vidal has embroidered this SUV with a new visual design language. The Renault Rafale boasts a slightly raised fastback coupe SUV body with a sporty silhouette. Upfront the SUV gets a new moving radiator black grille, signature LED headlights, a large air dam, and fog lights. The SUV character is enhanced by the long horizontal protruding bonnet and sculpted front bumper.
On the side, the SUV gets some sharp curves and creases which enhances the design of the vehicle. The vehicle features a sloping roofline and striking 20-inch alloy wheels for a dynamic essence. At the rear, the new Renault Rafale features a large window with a spoiler, Y-shaped LED taillights, and an upright tailgate lip. The tailgate also features black Renault and Rafale embossing and a sleek bumper with a skid plate concealing the exhaust pipes.

Interior and Features of Renault Rafale
On the interior front, the new Renault Rafale features an Open-R digital cockpit which is carried forward from other models. The coupe SUV boasts a 12-inch large portrait infotainment system, a 12-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 9-inch heads-up display. The dashboard inserts are made-up of dyed cork and slate and the vehicle also gets ambient lightning.
The Rafale SUV is equipped with Advanced safety equipment like level-2 ADAS. Furthermore, the carmaker has added a panoramic sunroof having the ability to darkness and light up the cabin. Despite the sloping roof, the carmaker claims that the SUV boasts plenty of headroom for rear passengers.
About the Powertrain Options
Renault will plonk-in a hybrid powertrain in their new flagship mode. The SUV will have a 1.2L turbocharged hybrid petrol engine under its hood. The engine will be assisted by the electric motor, high-voltage starter-generator, and 2 kWh lithium-ion battery. This results in the combined output of 197hp and 205nm while the engine alone churns out 130hp of power output. The power is channeled to the front wheels via a multimode automatic dog box transmission.
However, Renault will also introduce the new high-performance e-tech plug-in hybrid powertrain. It is expected that this powertrain will belt out 296hp of power output. Furthermore, the e-tech PHEV powertrain will be assisted by the rear-axle-mounted electric motor. This will enable the 4-control Advanced AWD drivetrain and improved performance. Renault will also offer a steering calibration with a 4-wheel steering system for enhanced maneuverability.
Launch Timeline and Opinion
Renault Rafale is slated for its launch and it will go on sale in Europe and other markets by 2024. This will be the first model of Renault with a self-charging hybrid E-Tech powertrain. The SUV will be produced at the upgraded Palencia plant in Spain. Moreover, the new Renault Rafale will take on the likes of the Peugeot 408, Citroen C5X fastback, Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe, BMW X4, and Audi Q5 Sportback.
In our opinion, Renault Rafale will fit the requirements of customers seeking a sporty French coupe SUV. The new SUV is brimmed with a sporty design language, striking design elements, and a tech-loaded interior. Furthermore, the nomenclature pays homage to the great top-speed fighter jet. One of the most important aspects is the hybrid powertrain and aerodynamic design which results in a sporty drivability.
