Volkswagen India announced that it received 45,000 bookings for the Taigun mid-size SUV since its launch that took place in September last year. The carmaker has also delivered 28,000 units of the model since September 2021. The Volkswagen Taigun bagged a five-star safety rating in the first round of the updated Global NCAP crash test. It garnered a five-star rating for both adult and child protection, becoming the first model to achieve this feat under GNCAP’s ‘Safer Cars for India’ alongside its cousin, the Skoda Kushaq. Volkswagen recently increased the prices of the Taigun by up to Rs 26,000. However, the Anniversary Edition is offered with savings of up to Rs 30,000.
The special edition, based on the Topline variant, was launched to commemorate the compact SUV’s first anniversary in the country. The Volkswagen Taigun comes with two turbo-petrol engine options- a 115PS/178Nm 1-litre and a 150PS/250Nm 1.5-liter. Transmission options include a standard 6-speed manual, an optional 6-speed torque converter (for the 1-litre engine), and a 7-speed DSG (1.5-litre motor). The 1-litre TSI variant has a claimed mileage of 18.10kmpl (MT) and 16.44kmpl (AT), while the 1.5-liter TSI returns a claimed 18.47kmpl (MT) and 17.88 (AT). The Taigun is 4,221mm long, 1,760mm wide, 1,612mm tall, and has a 2,651mm wheelbase.
On august this year, Skoda Volkswagen announced that it has taken on the global responsibility of developing MQB A0 platform-based models for the VW Group. The announcement comes after Skoda successfully led the development of the platform’s India-specific derivative – MQB A0 IN – which spawned the VW Taigun SUV. Volkswagen offers the Taigun in two broad trims: Dynamic Line and GT Line and the SUV gets five color options-Curcuma Yellow, Wild Cherry Red, Candy White, Reflex Silver, and Carbon Steel Grey. The VW Taigun packs a 10.1-inch infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an 8-inch digital driver’s display which is only available on the top-spec variants, ambient lighting, a single-pane sunroof, a wireless phone charger, ventilated front seats, cruise control, and keyless entry with push-button start. Passenger safety is secured by six airbags, ABS with EBD, tire pressure monitoring, a reverse camera with parking sensors, and an electronic stability program.
