With an increasing need for an affordable 4-wheeler, the market for small-size cars and hatchbacks is growing day by day. The two names which come to mind while thinking of an affordable hatchback to fill your daily commuting needs are Maruti’s Alto and Renault Kwid. When comparing the starting price of these two cars, there’s a massive difference of ₹75000 between the two. However, the base variant of the Alto K10 is bare bones and lacks even air conditioning. The next LXI variant is comparable to the base RXL Kwid wherein both are priced and equipped closely. The top models of both the cars are priced closely with the Kwid being a little more expensive. However, the extra dough gets you more equipment as well.

Apart from the height, the Kwid is superior to the Alto K10 in terms of almost every aspect. The ground clearance of the Kwid is much more at 184 mm when compared to the 160 mm of the Alto K10. Even the boot space of Kwid is larger at 279 liters compared to the Alto K10 which is 214 liters.

Comparing the 1.0-liter engine of both the cars, all the specs are nearly the same. Although in terms of mileage, the Alto K10 wins over Kwid with a fuel efficiency of an average of more than 24 km/l. Both the cars offer an option of 5-speed manual and AMT.

Features
The recently launched Alto K10 comes with a pair of sweptback halogen headlamps, 13-inch wheels, and flap-type door handles. While interior gets front power window controls, a new steering wheel with steering-mounted audio, and Bluetooth controls. It gets a digital instrument cluster and Maruti’s Smart Studio infotainment system which comes with Apple Carplay and Android Auto. Other features include USB ports, central locking with a remote key, and 4 speakers. In the safety front, it gets dual airbags, rear parking sensors, speed sensing auto door lock, and ABS and EBD.

The MY22 Kwid features silver streak LED DRLs and dual-tone flex wheels. A recent update included Seat belt Pyrotech and load limiter standard across all trims. The interior comes with a 20.32 cm MediaNAV Evolution touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Car Play, a floor console-mounted AMT dial, fast charging USB, electrically adjustable ORVMs, an LED digital instrument cluster, a one-touch lane change indicator, and speed-dependent volume control. While safety is taken care of by reverse parking sensors and camera with guidelines, dual front airbags, ABS, and seatbelt reminders.
