Take a good look, this is how the next generation Hyundai Elantra will look, when launched in India sometime next year. Also called the Avante is some markets, the new Elantra has been designed by Peter Schreyer, Hyundai’s newly recruited design boss. Why is the name worth mentioning? Because this man is mostly responsible for penning the first-generation Audi TT, widely considered to be one of the most influential automotive designs of all time. How does that feat rub off on the new Elantra then? Pretty well, as these new teaser sketches would like us to believe.
The front is characterised by a new trapezoidal grille, something that we saw on the stunning Vison G concept, as well as the ix35 compact SUV, and headlamps that bear an uncanny resemblance to the new Jaguar XE. The L-shaped LED signature compliments the similarly shaped fog lamp surrounds.
In profile, the new Elantra will have continue to have a swooping roofline that culminates into a coupe-like rear section, but this time, the overall design is more matured, the surfaces are tauter and the creases sharper. The carefully contoured wheel arch flares integrate seamlessly with the bodywork, while the rear end will feature horizontal tail lamps with Elite i20 like graphics, and a subtle boot lip spoiler.
No further official details are available right now, but it is expected to be powered by a 1.6-liter T-GDi engine making 175 hp, mated to Hyundai’s new seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. A global unveiling will happen either at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September or at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November. Details about its Indian entry will come thereafter.
