Kawasaki’s era of dominance and monopoly in India’s entry-level performance market has come under threat as the day has finally arrived when Yamaha introduced its 321cc twin cylinder YZF-R3 to Indian motorcycling aficionados. As reported before, the new Yamaha YZF-R3 will receive a newly developed engine and a lightweight Diamond frame. Sadly though, the Yamaha YZF-R3 will not receive the much-appreciated delta box frame that is seen on the YZF-R15.

The 321cc inline two-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine on the Yamaha YZF-R3 will deliver 42PS of power and 29.6Nm of torque and will come mated to a constant mesh, 6-speed transmission. The YZF-R3 uses R-series technology which includes a direct-drive camshaft, forged pistons, carburized con rods, low-friction cylinders and much more. Currently, Yamaha does not plan to offer ABS on the YZF-R3 for the Indian market.

Update: The motorcycle will be available in Midnight Black and Racing Blue and is priced at INR 3.25 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
