The Toyota Land Cruiser is one of those vehicles where you wouldn’t mind spending a hot afternoon on top of a hot sand mound. Of course, most of those who own one of these massive SUVs rather prefer taking it to the mall. In India, Toyota currently sells the 2012 model with a stonking great V8 diesel engine. This 4.5-litre motor churns out 260bhp of max power and 650Nm of torque.
The 2016 Toyota Land Cruiser will be an incremental update to the outgoing LC200 model. Incremental, because most of the changes/revisions that have taken place are mostly just cosmetic. The exterior gets revamped bumpers which now get chrome inserts for the foglights. The front grille gets some extra metallic elements and the bottom element stretches into the headlights. This gives the headlight unit a ‘split’ appearance and the top part of the spilt houses projector lamps, while the bottom half gets DRLs. There also appears to be two pronounced power bulges on the bonnet. As if that was lacking in anyway shape or form.
The rear gets a thick chrome strip that merges into the lamps.
Talking of the rear of the 2016 Toyota Land Cruiser, the taillight cluster now gets LED for the stoplights. Also, Toyota might chuck in the LED tech for the new headlight system as well. For something that weighs 2.8 tonnes, it isn’t going to be easy for the designer to mask the bulk. And seems like those with a pencil in their hands haven’t tried. What the designers seemed to have done, is make the 2016 Land Cruiser look its size and carry it proudly.
There’s no messing about it. The LC isn’t made for narrow urban street crawling.
Toyota has also given the 2016 LC a set of new alloy rims which accentuates the SUV’s proportions well. On the inside, the changes don’t appear too drastic. That said, for a mild revision such as this, Toyota has altered some design cues. The centre console has been given some ‘Lexus’ treatment and now looks more upmarket. The instrument cluster receives some metal accents for the same aforementioned affect. It isn’t sure if Toyota will be making any major mechanical alterations to the 2016 Land Cruiser. However, we can’t rule out some tweaks to improve the overall efficiency of the package. Anyway, below is a gallery of the leaked images of the 2016 Toyota Land Cruiser.
