Tata Motors is going all out to ensure that the company’s new found energy and attitude reflects in their new age products. After launching contemporary and capable cars like the Zest and the Bolt, they turned their attention towards their cute little city car, the Nano. They have added some new features to the car which now make it more urban, chic and appealing. Let’ take a look at what these changes are.
The new range comprises four variants, three with Manual Transmission (XE, XM, XT) mated to a four-speed gearbox and the top variant (XTA) is equipped with an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) mated to a five-speed gearbox. The Nano GenX continues to be powered by a 624cc, multi-point fuel injected, water cooled, naturally aspirated, 2 cylinder engine with 2 valves per cylinder. The engine produces 38PS power @ 5500 RPM and 51 Nm of torque.
AMT Gearbox
- For urban dwellers looking for a stress free and comfortable mode of transportation, the Tata Nano GenX presents a very strong case for itself now. The compact car will now be offered with a 5-speed AMT(Automated Manual Transmission) gearbox branded as ‘Easy Shift’
- It gets a ‘creep’ feature which lets the car crawl on its own in bumper-to-bumper traffic as soon as the driver eases off the pressure on the brake pedal
- Get this, the AMT system also comes with a ‘Sports’ mode! There’s also a Shift Assist manual mode which allows the driver to take control
- The Tata Nano GenX will also be available with a 4-speed manual gearbox
Rear Boot With 94 liter Luggage Space
- The rear tail-gate now opens upwards to reveal 94 liters of luggage space.
Design Changes
- The single chrome strip on the earlier model is now replaced with a black applique that carries the Tata logo with pride. A smiley shaped ‘infiniti’ grille in the bumper gets circular fog lamps, while headlights have undergone a smoked treatment
- The rear bumper gets a matching grille like its front counterpart, while an integrated rear spoiler tries to enhance the style quotient. Fuel tank capacity now stands at 24 liters. The Tata Nano GenX will be available in seven colours – Sangria Red (NEW), Persian Rose (New), Pearl White, Meteor Silver, Royal Gold, Dazzle Blue and Damson Purple
Interior
- The Tata nano GenX gets a new Electric Power Assisted Tata signature steering wheel which comes with an ‘Active Return’ feature
- The satin silver finished center console on the 2014 model is now replaced with a matte black finished unit. Audio system is the same old unit that offers bluetooth, USB and Aux inputs. It can also be used for telephony
- The instrument cluster is an all-new unit that also incorporates a digital readout for Low Fuel Warning, Digital Clock, Distance to Empty, Trip Meter, Average fuel consumption, Instantaneous Fuel consumption and Gear Shift Indicator for the AMT variant
- Creature comforts like Air-conditioning, keyless remote central locking and front power windows remain
