Like the Koreans, the Japanese, the Americans and our very own Tata Motors, it is now the Germans who have decided to bite the compact sedan bait. In an effort to please customers who like the pseudo premium feel that comes attached with a sedan, the oddity of proportions not withstanding, Volkswagen has decided to enter the sub 4-meter sedan race.
Like the Polo hatchback then, in terms of wheelbase, the Polo compact sedan will be identical to the small car. Differentiating design elements are hidden under black clothing, although the person who spotted this test mule claims that headlamps and the front grille design are not identical to any VW products on sale in India right now. What will be shared though are tail-lamps from the Vento with a different pattern and the center console design.
In order to avail excise duty benefits, the Volkswagen Polo Compact Sedan will most likely be powered by a 1.2-liter petrol and a 1.5-liter diesel, which it will share with the Vento and the Polo hatchback. Rumored to be launched in mid 2016, this compact VW could make an appearance at next year’s auto expo.
