At the 2016 Auto Expo, that took place earlier this year, Renault showcased not just one but many versions of their successful hatchback – Kwid. The Kwid compact hatchback helped the car manufacturer set a strong foot in the Indian market with competition thrashing sales figures. Taking the game a notch higher, Renault rolled out a 1.0-litre variant of the Kwid last month. And now in further advancement, the French car maker is all set to launch the AMT equipped Kwid in the coming weeks.
2016 Renault Kwid 1.0L SCe review: Small Wonder 2.0
Renault India has put up a teaser on their official website that says ‘Get ready to change the way you drive’. Coming soon from the maker will be the Kwid AMT that will have a dial to control the transmission functions instead of a traditional gearshifter offered in its class.
Dubbed as the Renault Kwid Easy-R AMT, the hatchback will benefit from an affordable and convenient 5-speed Automated Manual Transmission technology. It will have three modes – Reverse, Neutral and Drive and a Crawl function will be offered as well. The Crawl function will help the driver to move the vehicle forward and backward slowly without any throttle input.
Once launched, the Kwid Easy-R AMT will go head on with Maruti Suzuki’s Celerio and Alto AMT. Most likely, the AMT option will be exclusive to the 1.0-litre variant only. The 999cc SCe engine is capable of producing 67Bhp at 5,500 rpm and a peak torque of 91Nm at 4,250rpm. The company claims that it returns a fuel efficiency of 23.01 Kmpl. While the top end Kwid RXT 1.0 (O) is priced at INR 3,95,776, the Easy-R AMT variant will be priced tad higher. Well its about time to find out, till then stay tuned with us.
