Although earlier rumors suggested that the car would cover 30+ kms on a liter of diesel, the Maruti Celerio’s oil burning variant will carry an ARAI economy rating of 27.62 kpl. However, that will not stop the car from becoming India’s most fuel efficient car when it witnesses launch on June 3, 2015.
The Maruti Celerio Diesel is reported to be powered by a 793cc two-cylinder diesel engine that pumps out 47 bhp at 3,500 rpm, 127 nm of torque at 2000 clicks and will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Powered by Maruti’s indigenously developed motor, the hatchback will be christened as Maruti Celerio DDiS 125.
Like Maruti’s other diesel hatchbacks, the Celerio diesel toowill be offered in LDi, VDi and a range topping ZDi trim level. Except the engine under the hood, expect styling, interior features and everything else to be carried over from the petrol sibling. Expect the diesel Celerio to be priced at around Rs 4.5 lakh at launch.
