Skoda Octavia 4×4 Unveiled: More Power, Better Traction, and AWD as Standard

Quick Overview:

  • Skoda Octavia now offers all-wheel drive (AWD) for both hatchback and estate models.
  • Powered by a 2.0 TSI engine delivering 204 hp, paired with a 7-speed DSG transmission.
  • Accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 6.6 seconds with a top speed of 228 km/h.

Skoda has introduced the updated Octavia 4×4, bringing all-wheel drive to both the hatchback and estate versions. The latest model comes with a more powerful 2.0 TSI petrol engine producing 204 hp (150 kW) and 320 Nm of torque. Paired with a seven-speed DSG transmission, the Octavia 4×4 promises better performance and improved traction across various driving conditions.

Performance and Powertrain

The 2.0 TSI engine marks an upgrade over the previous model, offering 14 hp more. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds for the hatchback and 6.7 seconds for the estate, with a top speed of 228 km/h. Despite the increase in power, Skoda claims improved fuel efficiency through high-pressure fuel injection (350 bar) and variable valve lift technology.

The electrohydraulically controlled multi-plate clutch manages the AWD system. Depending on the driving conditions, it can send up to 100% of torque to the rear axle. In normal conditions, torque is distributed up to 50:50 between the front and rear axles. This system enhances grip on slippery surfaces and supports a towing capacity of up to 1,900 kg with a braked trailer.

Design and Features

The updated Octavia 4×4 is available in multiple trims, including Essence, Selection Loft, Lodge, Lounge, Suite, and Sportline. While specific interior updates remain undisclosed, these trims typically offer advanced connectivity features, premium upholstery, and driver-assist systems.

The multi-link rear suspension improves ride comfort and handling, especially in challenging terrain. Skoda also offers a range of exterior and interior customization options through their Design Selections program.

Competitors and Market Position

The Skoda Octavia 4×4 competes with models like the Volkswagen Golf Alltrack and Audi A4 Allroad. With its combination of performance, AWD capability, and towing strength, the Octavia 4×4 positions itself as a versatile choice for both urban and off-road driving. In India, there is no direct competitor currently.

Final Thoughts

The updated Skoda Octavia 4×4 blends enhanced power with practical all-wheel drive. Its improved performance figures and towing capacity make it a solid contender in the premium AWD segment. With customer orders now open, deliveries are set to begin in the coming weeks. However, plans for an India launch are not confirmed but we are sure that India will get some units via the CBU-route.
