Maruti Suzuki India Limited have launched the new 2016 Alto 800 facelift in India. We reported about the possible launch today a few hours ago. Termed ‘India ki Pehli Sawari’ as a part of the marketing campaign, the new Alto 800 comes with new exterior styling, more space inside the cabin and 9% more fuel efficiency. The car also gets news colours in its latest avatar.
The headline news with the new Alto 800 is its fuel efficiency which now stands at 24.7 Km/l for petrol, around 9 per cent improvement over the earlier version. In CNG mode the Alto 800 offers a mileage of 33.44 Km/Kg an improvement of around 10 per cent over the previous version.
Exterior and design
Up front, the car now gets what Maruti Suzuki prefers calling the ‘new Aero Edge Design’. The bumper has been redesigned to look a tad more ‘sporty’ and so has been the grille. It also increases the exterior length of the vehicle by 35 mm. The lower grille is made wider and an addition of newly designed headlamps and provision of front fog lamps in the bumper, which can be installed at the dealerships. Maruti Suzuki has added two new colours – Mojito Green and Cerulean Blue.
On the inside of Alto 800 customers will get new dark grey interior colour along with new seat and door trim fabric to uplift the quality feel inside the cabin. The rear seat has been improved too, and now features an integrated headrest.
Engine and fuel efficiency
Maruti Suzuki engineers have made amends to the Alto 800’s engine for even better fuel economy. The tweaked engine, according to the company’s official statement, “provides excellent torque at low rpms, enabling less frequent gear change”. Specially coated piston and ring set are claimed to have reduced frictional losses and increased engine life and fuel efficiency. The car comes equipped with drive by wire techn for great responsiveness from the powetrain.
Safety and convenience
In terms of safety, the new Alto 800 comes available with a driver airbag as an option from the base variant onwards. The passenger side ORVM is now a standard feature across all variants. On the higher trims the Alto 800 comes with a rear door child lock that makes travelling with children safer.
