What we have here on this page is yet another set of pics of the Volkswagen Golf, a premium full sized hatchback that is not on sale in India!
This Volkswagen Golf was spotted in Bangalore by a member of Team BHP forums’. As we have been saying, Volkswagen has no plans of launching this car in our country and our guess is that this Golf is being used by some component manufacturer for its own internal testing and evaluation.
The Golf that has been spotted is the TSI BlueMotion variant. This means that this test mule is powered by a 1.4 litre turbocharged petrol engine that is internationally available on Golf in states of tune- 120 hp and 138 hp. The engine comes mated to a seven speed double-clutch transmission.
The Volkswagen Golf is 4.25 meters long and this means, the car isn’t eligible for excise duty benefits provided by the Government of India to cars measuring less than 4 metres in length.
Volkswagen India has so far refrained from launching the Golf in India due to the lack of interest our car buying lot has in highly priced hatchbacks. For many, buying the Golf in India won’t make much sense, for it is sure to be priced above the Vento, which is a proper three box sedan. Plus, the Jetta entry level D segment sedan won’t be far up higher in the price-ladder.
