Yamaha Adds More Colour To The MT-15 Streetbike

Launched in the month of March in the Indian market, the MT-15 from Yamaha, is essentially a naked alternative to the YZF-R15 sportsbike. On sale for a price of INR 1.36 Lakh, which is rather steep for a 150 cc motorcycle, the MT-15 has been offered only in two shades – a matte black and a matte blue. However, pictures on the internet reveal that new colour options have started to arrive at dealerships across the country. Seen in the pictures here are new glossy shades of red white and blue, all of which stand with a new arrival tag on the showroom floor, suggesting that Yamaha has added more colour options to this street bike. However, this is a dealer-level modification.

Yamaha did disappoint many fans with the launch of the MT-15. Apart from the steep pricing, the lack of features including an upsidedown fork, coloured alloy wheels, dual channel ABS and some more when compared to the international spec model has been the reason for this disappointment. Despite that, the naked street bike has managed to sell in pretty decent numbers since the launch of the bike. With three more additions to the colour options of this motorcycle, Yamaha can expect to attract much more customers. Yamaha also recently announced that customers of this naked bike shall receive an MT branded jacket or helmet, to further enhance its sales.

This Yamaha is powered by a 155 cc, liquid-cooled, SOHC engine. Equipped with Variable Valve Actuation technology, this motor generates 19.3 hp @ 10,000 rpm and 14.7 Nm of torque at 8,500 rpm. This power is sent to the rear wheel via a six-speed gearbox and also gets an assist and slipper clutch. The motorcycle uses a conventional telescopic suspension in the front and a monoshock at the rear. Anchorage duties are taken care of by a 282 mm disc in the front and a 220 mm unit at the rear governed by a single channel ABS unit. While the motorcycle is a well put together machine, it does indeed come with a steep price tag. Does the motorcycle do justice to the heavy price tag? Find out in our detailed review which is linked above.
