Volkswagen to introduce a new brand to market entry level cars

Only a day back, we reported about VW planning to come up with aggressive priced entry level hatchbacks in India. We also talked about a possibility of Volkswagen introducing a new brand in India for the sales and service of these cars, a la Nissan – Datsun. Now, further development on this line is that it has got almost confirmed that Volkswagen will launch a new entry-level brand for selling the ‘not so premium’ cars in developing markets like India.

Speaking with Auto Motor und Sport, head of research and development at VW, Ulrich Hackenberg, said that developing a budget end car is “real challenge” and the manufacturer is closely looking at working on some its models to make them more affordable. He said, “Those cars will not be able to be sold under the Volkswagen name.” These ‘affordable’ VWs should retail at under INR 4 lakhs.
