Volkswagen Polo GTi spotted once again in India – Is the launch closer than expected?

Volkswagen Polo GTI - Spied in India - 1

The Volkswagen Polo GTi hot hatch has been once again spotted in India and it is the same vehicle that was spied last month (We are no Sherlock Holmes but the numberplate kind of gave it away).

The reason to call the Volkswagen Polo GTi a proper hot hatch is because of the power plant that does duty under the bonnet. The GTi is powered by a 1.8-litre ‘EA888’ turbocharged petrol engine which delivers a whopping 190 bhp of power. The six-speed manual transmission delivers a healthy 320Nm of torque while the seven-speed DSG Transmission shells out a relatively lower 250Nm. From standstill, the GTi can sprint to the century mark in about 6.7 seconds, and on to a top speed of 146 mph (about 235 kph).

To put things in perspective, the Mercedes A-Class 200 CDI Sport, with its 2143cc engine motor, puts up 135 bhp of power and 300Nm of torque. The GTi is the fastest Polo ever made. The Polo GTI gets a suspension that has been tuned to match its sporty characteristics and, when compared to a standard Polo, the high performance version sits 10 mm lower at the front and 15 mm lower at the rear.

There is no official word about the new Volkswagen Polo GTi but with this unit, sans the camouflage, doing test runs, we don’t think the launch date is much far away. Stay tuned for more updates.

  1. Its good to see VW taking the effort. I’ve written to Maruti to plonk the K14 into the swift n Gypsy and Honda to plonk a bigger 200cc engine onto the CBF 125. I’ve even written to Tata’s to bring back the Sierra with a better engine & Mahindra to give the Bolero the Mhawk…..
