VinFast Charts a Bold EV Game Plan for India at Roundtable Meet in Vietnam
At a recent roundtable conference hosted at its headquarters in Vietnam, VinFast shed light on its ambitious India roadmap. The Vietnamese EV maker confirmed that it will debut in the Indian market with two all-electric models—VF 6 and VF 7. Bookings for both SUVs will officially open this June, with full price and warranty details to be announced at the time of launch.
First Wave: VF 6 and VF 7 SUVs
VinFast’s India entry will be led by the VF 6 and VF 7, both positioned as lifestyle-oriented electric SUVs. While official specifications for the India-spec versions are yet to be released, international versions of the VF 7 boast a dual-motor setup with 348 PS and 500 Nm of torque, alongside a claimed range of over 400 km. The VF 6, on the other hand, targets compact SUV buyers with a single motor, practical dimensions, and a tech-laden cabin.

Both cars will come equipped with ADAS features, premium interiors, and fast-charging capabilities. VinFast is clearly gunning for a slice of the premium mass-market pie where the MG ZS EV, Tata Curvv EV, and MG Windsor EV already have a strong foothold.
Beyond Big Cities: A Tiered Expansion Strategy
Interestingly, VinFast isn’t just banking on metro cities to drive demand. The company revealed that interest in EVs is growing rapidly in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities—areas often overlooked by premium EV players. Showrooms will go up in cities like Jaipur, Lucknow, Pune, and Kochi. Each location will get a dealership only after detailed market analysis: population size, EV uptake, charging infrastructure, all evaluated carefully.

Rather than sprawling luxury centers, VinFast is setting up modular “brand pods”—compact, experience-focused showrooms with EV test drives, quick service bays, and smart digital kiosks. Sales partners will be trained under a centralized VinUniversity EV curriculum to ensure consistency. The idea is clear: sleek, scalable, sales-driven outlets that cost less to set up and can roll out fast.
Local Production and Scale-Up Plans
VinFast’s manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu will have an initial capacity of 50,000 units per annum. But that’s just the beginning. The plant has been designed to scale up to 1.5 lakh vehicles annually, depending on market demand. The company also intends to use this facility as an export hub for other right-hand-drive markets.
Our Thoughts
VinFast may be new to India, but they’ve certainly done their homework. With the VF 6 and VF 7, they’re aiming straight at a young, urban audience that wants more than just range and affordability—it wants style, tech, and some bragging rights. What’s refreshing is the brand’s Tier 2–Tier 3 focus, which could shake up how EVs are sold in India. Now we wait for the pricing—because in this segment, the right number can make all the difference.
