VIDEO: Upcoming Mercedes CLS in action

Mercedes-Benz officially unveiled the 2015 CLS and CLS Shooting Brake last week. Now, Mercedes has introduced videos of the CLS and CLS Shooting Brake on YouTube.

The CLS and CLS Shooting Brake received many updated. One update that grabbed attention was the MULTIBEAM LED headlamp. The MULTIBEAM LED headlamp feature 36 LED bulbs per headlamp, 24 of which move independently distributing light according to the road conditions. Windshield comes equipped with two stereo cameras which provides inputs to an electronic control module that actuates the bulbs. The 24 individually-controlled LEDs are adjusted a 100 times per second using a camera and four control units for optimum illumination without disturbing the oncoming traffic.

Another major change was the newly developed 9G-TRONIC 9-speed automatic transmission which provides better performance with improved fuel efficiency.

On the inside, the CLS gets a new, free-standing colour display in the head unit with its 20.3 cm screen. Other new features include a redesigned three-spoke sports steering wheel. Five attractive interior colours, six trim finishes as well as grades of leather ranging from leather to Exclusive PASSION leather will be available in future along with host of potential personalisation options.

The 2015 CLS will be available in five engine options, all of which would fulfil Euro 6 standard. A new addition to the engine lineup is the CLS 220 BlueTEC which is four-cylinder diesel engine featuring fourth-generation common rail direct injection, two-stage turbocharging and BlueTEC technology capable of producing 170 hp and offers maximum torque of 400 Nm. The four-cylinder diesel unit in the CLS 250 BlueTEC offers 201 bhp and torque of 500 Nm on tap. The V6 diesel unit in the CLS 350 BlueTEC churns out 254 bhp and torque of 620 Nm.

There also an addition of a V6 petrol engine with turbocharging in the CLS 400 with a 3.5 litre displacement and biturbo drive. Compared to its predecessor with a naturally aspirated engine it produces 25 bhp more with 328 bhp. Its torque increases by 110 Nm to 480 Nm.

The Mercedes CLS is scheduled for a premier at the Goodwood Festival Of Speed on 27th of June. In India, we expect to see the CLS facelift launch sometime next year.
