India is yet to warm up to pick-up trucks. So when this freshly imported, Pride Orange coloured Ford Ranger with an inflatable kayak stuck to its roof and an ATV in tow goes for a drive in Bengaluru, heads turn.
In Australia, from where it has been imported, the Ford Ranger is a seasoned beast. It does look familiar, because this is THE truck on which the Endeavour SUV is based on. Of course, the styling is more extroverted, more so in this case as this example happens to be the range topping Wildtrack edition. There are extra helpings of body cladding, a more expressive front grille and exaggerated bonnet bulges. We’re guessing it’s even got a handful of after-market accessorises to boost aesthetics.
In Australia, the Ranger is available with a choice of 2.2- and 3.2-litre diesel engines. The Wildtrack 4×4 edition gets the bigger engine by default, that means there’s close to 200 bhp on tap here, along with 470 Nm of torque – enough to pull an ATV laden trailer with ease. A 4×4 system comes as standard, given that the Ranger can wade through 800mm of water, while the electronically locking rear differential make light work of most off-road challenges.

It might be a truck, but the Ranger Wildtrack 4×4 comes with a full set of comfort and convenience features like ambient lighting, auto on/off headlamps, dual zoned climate control, a dual colour 4.2″ instrumentation screen, leather wrapped steering wheel/gear knob and rain sensing windscreen wipers. Word has it that the owner imported this beast into the country for an on-road price of INR 90 lakhs. That’s pretty steep, but the street cred is unparalleled.
