The Piaggio Vespa LX125 automatic scooter has been successful in grabbing the attention of the Indian scooter buying lot. However, much of this has to do with the premium positioning and high sticker price of the scoot and all the interest hasn’t transformed into sales for the Indian division of Italian bike maker.
The Vespa LX125 was launched in April last year and 25,000 units of the tasty looking scoot have found a home since then. This figure is only a small segment of the total automatic scooter sales that took place last year. Piaggio recognizes that a very high pricing of the scooter hasn’t gone down too well with the market and the bike maker has now dropped prices of the Vespa LX125 to INR 59,990. This means that the scooter becomes cheaper by almost about INR 7000.
While the Vespa LX125 is now only a little dearer than other automatic scooters in its segments, it misses out on features like tubeless tyres and front disc brake.
It remains to be seen if the price drop, coupled with retro styling, manages to bring in more buyers to Piaggio Vespa showrooms.
