A relatively humble 2017 Audi R8 V10 drove into the garage of Underground Racing, received a heavy dose of twin-turbo steroids and came out with a colossal 2200 whp of power. Yes, all that power is calculated at the wheels and not at the crank! To put things in perspective, the stock 5.2 litre naturally-aspirated V10 on the R8 delivers 601 hp of power and the stock Bugatti Chiron makes about 1500 hp. Too much power you say?
Well, Underground Racing offers the six levels of tunes which offer different power outputs. The base twin turbo system, which is available for USD 49,000 (INR 33.06 lakh), pumps out 800 whp of power when fed with high-octane petrol available at regular gas stations. Then there is Stage 1 which comes for USD 59,000 (INR 39.81 lakh). The Stage 1 twin turbo system, when given race fuel, delivers 900 whp of power. The USD 69,000 (INR 46.55 lakh) Stage 2 pushes the bar even higher and delivers 850 hp of power with high octane fuel while with race fuel puts out 1,000 whp. The Audi R8 does not need any engine modifications till Stage 2.

Enter Stage 3. The Stage 3 twin turbo calls for engine modifications and costs USD 99,000 (INR 66.80 lakh). At Stage 3, the Audi R8 breathes out 1,000 whp on high-octane petrol and 1,250 whp on race fuel. Things get severely serious after this. Stage 3 is followed by the Race Version twin turbo which makes the tarmac burn with 1,150 whp on high-octane petrol and 1,500 whp on race fuel – that’s more than what the latest Bugatti makes in stock mode and but the folks at Underground Racing didn’t stop there.
Topping the range is the X Version twin turbo kit which requires heavy engine modifications and, with regular high-octane petrol, delivers 1200 whp of power. Fill it up with race fuel and you would be catapulted to interstellar speeds by a jaw dropping 2,200 whp! What’s the cost for the final two? Well, if you have to ask, you probably cannot afford one.
Underground Racing says that driving the twin turbo R8 Plus is “something that should only be experienced, not explained” and we are definitely at loss of words.
