Toyota Launches the New Rumion MPV in India

Toyota has made an entry into the MPV Indian market with the launch of the brand-new Rumion MPV. Starting at a price of Rs 10.29 lakh for the base S variant and reaching up to Rs 13.68 lakh for the top-end V automatic variant, both prices being ex-showroom, India. The booking process has officially begun, requiring only Rs 11,000.

The Toyota Rumion is essentially a re-badged version of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, undergoing subtle cosmetic changes. It is even available in a CNG variant from launch, priced at Rs 11.24 lakh.

Range of Options and Trims

The Rumion offers three trim levels – S, G, and V – with automatic transmission available in all trims except the mid-spec G. The factory-fitted CNG kit is exclusively available in the base S trim. Below is a comprehensive breakdown of the prices:

TOYOTA RUMION PRICE (EX-SHOWROOM)

  • S: Rs 10.29 lakh
  • S AT: Rs 11.89 lakh
  • G: Rs 11.45 lakh
  • V: Rs 12.18 lakh
  • V AT: Rs 13.68 lakh
  • S CNG: Rs 11.24 lakh

Compared to the Ertiga, which falls between Rs 8.64 lakh to Rs 13.08 lakh, the Rumion begins with a higher base price due to the absence of one trim level. This places the Rumion at a premium of Rs 51,000-61,000 above the Ertiga, depending on the trim level.

Design and Features

Visually, the Rumion remains closely tied to the Ertiga on which it is based. The primary differences are on the bumper, featuring new trapezoidal fog lamp housings, and a grille resembling that of the Innova Crysta. The dual-tone alloys contribute to its unique identity. Internally, the Rumion shares the same dual-tone black and beige dashboard finish with a faux wood insert. Top-spec features include a 7.0-inch touchscreen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic AC, analog instrument cluster with a digital MID, connected car tech, four airbags, ESC, and more. The Rumion is configured with seven seats.

Toyota Rumion Power and Efficiency

Under the hood, the Toyota Rumion carries Maruti’s 103hp, 137Nm, 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine, paired with a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. In its CNG version, the same engine offers 88hp and 121.5Nm, with the manual gearbox as the sole option. Toyota claims the Rumion petrol model boasts a fuel efficiency of 20.51 km/l, while the Rumion CNG variant achieves 26.11 km/kg.

Warranty and Competition

Toyota extends a standard warranty of 3 years/1,00,000 km, which can be extended to 5 years/2,20,000 km. The primary rival for the Rumion will be its own sibling, the Ertiga. Additionally, it will face competition from the entry-level versions of the Kia Carens (Rs 10.45 lakh-18.45 lakh) and the 6-seater Maruti Suzuki XL6 (Rs 11.56 lakh-14.82 lakh). With its competitive pricing and robust features, the Rumion aims to captivate the Indian market.
