Toyota Kiroskar Motors Launches Etios and Etios Liva Facelifts

New Toyota Etios & Etios Liva favelift

Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt. Ltd. launched the updated models of the Etios sedan and Etios Liva hatchback at an event in New Delhi yesterday. The new vehicles were launched amid much fanfare at the final match of the month long cricket tournament – Toyota University Cricket Championship (TUCC).

The Etios sedan was launched in India in December 2010 and was followed by Etios Liva hatchback in June 2011. The duo has clocked a sales figure of more than 1, 45,000 units since then. However, the Etios duo hasn’t really managed to upset the demand for its rivals and is far from being the best seller in its segment. Much of this can be attributed to an exterior styling that can be best described as understated and the lack of ‘premium feel’ that Indian car buying lot associates with Toyota cars.

Toyota Kirloskar Motors seems to have taken notice of this and has come with thoroughly revised versions of its entry level products to give them a new lease of life.

Updates to the exterior design include redesigned grille with chrome garnishing, rear combination lamps with distinct fin pattern, new indicators on side view mirrors and introduction of classic grey paintjob.

Changes to the interiors include a new fabrics and ash brown colour to the dashboard. The car gets  a new 2 Din audio system with Bluetooth, USB, Aux- In and remote, new seats, new AC control panel with clean air filters and blue illumination for the speedo console.

TKM has introduced new trim levels with the updated car and the Liva TRD Sportivo now comes with a more powerful 1.5 litre petrol engine. The 1.5 litre engine has a power output of 90 PS and the car comes with ABS, D+P Airbag, 15” Smoked alloys, TRDAero Kit ,TRD Sprotivo logo on seats and Roof ornament.

The diesel line up will now have the newly introduced J grade at the entry level.

Commenting on the new launch, Mr. Sandeep Singh, Deputy Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer, Marketing and Commercial said “As a part of our product lifecycle and with the aim to bring newness to the lineup we are launching the New Etios and Etios Liva. We have incorporated customer feedback and are looking forward to delighting more customers with the new vehicles. The whole lineup is aimed at giving the customers the latest in features and looks, adding to its style quotient. The new lineup is a lot more youthful and trendy. We thank all our customers who have liked and appreciated the product. The Etios has made inroads not just in India but also in South Africa and Brazil. The vehicles are available in the Toyota showrooms starting today. We welcome all to experience and enjoy the new vehicles.”

It is going to be interesting to see if the mildly refreshed cars will have a better showing on the sales charts.
