Tata Nexon – Top Selling SUV in Nov 2022

Let us take a close look at the top 10 cars sold this November. As expected, a Maruti car leads with the highest sales followed by something which left us surprised; a Tata in the second spot! Although the list mainly comprises Maruti Suzuki cars, we also see two cars from Tata Motors’ stable and one from Hyundai.

Top 10 Cars – Nov 2022

On the top spot, we have Maruti’s premium hatchback – the Baleno with a sales figure of 20,945 units retailed in Nov’22 as opposed to 9,931 in Nov’21. This means that Baleno’s sales grew by 11,014 units resulting in a YoY growth of 111% for the hatchback. Launched back in 2015, the Baleno has been a formidable player for Maruti Suzuki in the segment with rivals like the Tata Altroz, Hyundai i20, and Honda Jazz.

Maruti recently updated the Baleno in February this year with a fresher look and upmarket interiors which has further contributed to the car’s sales. Baleno and its badge-engineered sibling, the Toyota Glanza together clocked a whopping 25,338 units.

Next up, we have the Swift at fourth place followed by the Wagon R where the Swift only registered a YoY growth of 4% while the latter showed a decline of 13% in its YoY growth. The Swift sold 585 units more than it did in November last year with a total of 15,153 units while Maruti’s tall boy hatchback sold 2,133 fewer units than last year, at 14,720. Wagon R is the only car in the list to reflect a negative YoY figure.

Now we come to the only sedan and MPV on the list which are both from Maruti as well. The Dzire compact sedan and Ertiga 7-seater MPV sold 14,456 units and 13,818 units respectively. The last three vehicles in this list are all SUVs but from different price segments. The second Tata product in this list, i.e., the Punch recorded a sales figure of 12,131 units this month as opposed to 6,110 units in the same month last year. This results in a YoY growth of 99% for the Tata SUV. Coming to the last entrant to this list, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza sub 4 meter SUV, whose 11,324 units were dispatched in November’22 marking a YoY growth of 5% and volume growth of 564 units as compared to 10,760 units retailed in Nov’21.
