Tata Motors acquired British luxury car and SUV maker, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) back in 2008. However, the Indian car maker refrained from using JLR’s technology, till now.

To face the rising competition, Tata Motors has decided to get help from JLR for design and development of technologically-advanced models. With the strategy of introducing two new models every year, we feel that Tata Motors would find it easier to differentiate between its future cars and offer a wider variety of products.

In a chat with Times of India, Girish Wagh, senior VP (programme planning & project management) at Tata Motors’ passenger vehicles division said, “There has been and there will be a tremendous amount of sharing between Tata Motors and JLR. There will be significant exchange in terms of processes and specific competencies and knowledge. It could be related to design (of new models), and engines.”

With the introduction of new models from local as well as global players, Tata Motors will have to work hard to stay ahead in the race. The addition of JLR’s know-how which the British car maker has learnt over the years will help Tata Motors to offer better products into the Indian as well as in the global car market.

How much of a difference, according to you, would the addition of JLR’s expertise make in terms of sales for Tata Motors? Share your thoughts through comments below.
