So this is IT! Suzuki has finally revealed the concept form of the highly anticipated Maruti A-Star replacement. Dubbed as the A:Wind, the concept has been showcased at the Thailand International Motor Expo 2013.
As we have been saying, the A-Star to us is the Alto to global car markets. Hence, it won’t be a surprise if the A:Wind goes on sale under the Alto moniker. In India though, it would replace the ‘not-so-popular’ A-Star and could be sold with a new name.
The new Suzuki A:Wind concept has the following dimensions: 3600mm length, 1600mm width and 1540mm height. The wheelbase is 2425mm long. The car rides on 16-inch mag wheels shod in 185/55 R16 spec rubber.
Powering the new Suzuki A:Wind is 996cc petrol motor that sends power to the front wheels through a CVT ‘box.
Overall, the new Suzuki A:Wind concept has pleasing looks that should appeal to a wide range of audience. However, it would be interesting to see if certain details, such as the rather ‘interesting’ looking front grille that has two chrome bars stretching all the way into the headlights, would make it to the production model.
On the inside, the car gets an understated design theme for the cabin, which comes in two tone colors. It is being said that the new Suzuki A:Wind is considerably roomier than the A-Star, which means that the issue of a cramped rear (on the A-Star) has been dealt with.
The Suzuki A:Wind concept debuts with a new Energy Yellow exterior paint scheme.
The Suzuki A:Wind concept will make its India debut at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo in February next year. The production spec A:Wind is most likely to come to us and it would be interesting to see if the A:Wind would have a better fate than the A-Star in our market.
