Spied: Maruti Suzuki YBA compact SUV caught wearing heavy camouflage

After Hyundai confirmed that the ix25 will make its India debut next year, it’s potential challenger, the upcoming Maruti Suzuki compact SUV code-named YBA has been spied testing. Although the test mule has been caught wearing heavy camouflage, it appears that this baby SUV will sport a glass area that is similar to the Swift and the XA-Alpha concept, first displayed at the Auto Expo in 2012. Bearing close resemblance to the Suzuki iV-4 concept which was showcased at the Frankfurt motor show in 2013, some of the styling bits on the actual car could be toned down for the production car, a’la the Ciaz.

Maruti YBA

Powering the YBA could either be any of the proven mills in Maruti’s arsenal or if rumors are to be believed, a new Fiat-sourced 1.5-litre, 100 bhp diesel engine could propel this compact SUV. However, we believe in all probability, it could be the 1.3-litre, DDiS, 90ps diesel engine that could propel the car, which it might share with the Ciaz and the Ertiga. Another rumor doing the rounds is that Maruti could equip the YBA with Suzuki’s AllGrip all-wheel drive system. The car is expected to be revealed at the Auto Expo in 2016 and when launched will compete against the Ford Ecosport and Hyundai’s yet to be launched ix25.
