SPIED: Kia Sportage and Sorento SUVs spotted in India

Hyundai’s very own, Kia Motors Corporation, has been in the news previously due to their India plans. With an aim to expand its presence in India, the South Korea based car manufacturing company had kick-started the process of entering the country’s automobile market. They also opened a R&D centre in Hyderabad and operations at this facility have already started. Kia Motors aims to design and develop India focused car models in order to gain foothold in the country.

While all of that is on in full throttle, a few new SUVs of Kia have been spotted in Kolkata, India. The images were shared on Elite Car Club Kolkata by an user named Abhimanyu Lhila. The models in question are the Kia Sorento and the Kia Sportage. Well, before some of you get excited thinking that more Korean SUV models might be reaching the Indian market, hold on to your horses! These spotted models are likely being ferried to markets of Nepal and Bhutan via India. Nepal and Bhutan are some of Kia’s prime markets in the Asia region. As of now the company is well established in European, Chinese, US and the Korean market.

Globally, 2016 Kia Sportage is available with two petrol engines and one diesel engine. The two petrol options include the Theta 2.4-Litre GDI and the Nu 2.0-Litre MPI engine. The former produces 181 Bhp and a peak torque of 237Nm whereas the latter makes 154 Bhp and a peak torque of 196 Nm. Coming to the diesel unit, the R 2.0-Litre engine is capable of producing 182 Bhp and a peak torque of 402Nm. Both the petrol and Diesel engine are offered with automatic as well as manual transmission.

The Kia Sorento is a class above of the Sportage and rolls out with a premium pricetag. Alike the Sportage the Sorento is offered with two petrol and one diesel engine option. The powerful V6 3.3-Litre MPI and the 2.4-Litre MPI petrol engines are capable of firing out 266 Bhp and 169 Bhp respectively. The 2.2-Litre CRDi diesel makes 197 Bhp. These engines are mated to 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
