Skoda Superb Makes a Comeback as an Import

Limited Reintroduction

Skoda India is preparing to reintroduce the current-gen Skoda Superb sedan in the Indian market, albeit in limited numbers. This move comes after the cessation of sales due to the implementation of strict BS6 Phase II emissions norms on April 1, 2023.

Completely Built Unit (CBU) Import

Unlike its previous assembly in India, the Superb will now be imported as a Completely Built Unit (CBU). Skoda will leverage the government’s GSR 870 rule, allowing them to import up to 2,500 units of right-hand-drive vehicles under the M and L categories without the need for homologation.

Skoda Superb Updated Engine

The reintroduced Superb will feature an updated 2.0-liter TSI engine, producing 190hp and paired with a 7-speed DSG gearbox.

This move is considered a temporary solution, as a new fourth-gen Superb is set to make its global debut shortly.

Skoda Superb Advanced Features

The upcoming Superb will be equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control with speeds of up to 210kph. It will also feature park assist with a 360-degree camera.

Limited Paint Options

Buyers will have a choice of three exterior paint shades – Rosso Brunello (New), Water World Green (New), and Magic Black. The standard alloy wheel size will be 17-inch, made by Stratos.

Skoda Superb Enhanced Infotainment and Safety

The Superb will come with a Columbus Infotainment system, which was not available in the previously locally-made Superb.

Skoda’s adaptive chassis control technology will be standard, along with an active tire pressure monitoring system and nine airbags.

Expected Price And Our Thoughts

Unofficial bookings for the sedan are reportedly being accepted by some dealers, with prices quoted around the Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom) range.

Skoda’s decision to reintroduce the Superb as an import reflects its commitment to providing customers with a premium sedan option in India. With advanced features and an updated engine, the Superb aims to make a strong comeback in the Indian market. Stay tuned for more details about the Superb’s re-launch in the coming weeks.
