If you’re a regular at Motoroids, you could recollect that Mahindra has already begun working on the next-generation Thar. Now, if a new report is to be believed, the upcoming generation of the Thar will be based on an all new platform in order to conform to the new crash safety forms which will come into effect next year.
It was previously reported that Mahindra is working on a new platform that will underpin various products in its product portfolio, of which the Thar will be the first to use this platform. This upcoming version of the Thar will be derived by taking design inputs from their in-house design team, Ssangyong as well as Pininfarina.
As reported earlier, the new Thar, which is expected to arrive by 2020, could come equipped with features such as smartphone connectivity including Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, memory seats as well as intelligent and assisted driving.
Engine specifications of the next-generation Mahindra Thar are scarce at the moment although the model could arrive with an all new BS-VI emission compliant 1.5-litre engine. The new Thar will come equipped with safety features such as ABS, airbags, rear parking sensors, and a seat belt reminder. This model, as we mentioned earlier, will also comply with the upcoming safety norms that will come into effect from 2020.
