Road Trip to Goa: The recipe for rejuvenation

Bollywood aficionados will remember the laugh-a-minute comedy movie “Bombay To Goa” or the iconic “Dil Chahta Hai” and the fun the characters have while on the road travelling to Goa. If one wants to bring reel life to real life, then one must ditch the traditional travel methods and hit the road with close pals while planning the next vacation to Goa. Fun, fish and feni is all that is on the agenda while on a trip to this amazingly laidback holiday destination.

When to go

If one is planning a road trip from Mumbai to Goa during the peak season of December-January, then the first thing one needs to book is a place to stay. The world is going to turn up in this place that is considered the party capital of India at this time of the year and accommodation will be available at a premium. If one is keen to get away from the crowds then monsoons are the best times to get into a preferred vehicle and drive to the freshly laundered and invigoratingly green Goa.

Gear Up

Giving the vehicle a thorough check-up is a must once the road trip is planned. Brakes, engine oil, lights, fog lamps and indicators should get priority during this check. Put in your toolkit before you stuff your luggage in, as this will be needed while driving down the Western Ghats. A Goa trip can turn into a reality even if you do not own a car as modern car rentals like Zoomcar provide a superb range of well-maintained self-drive cars.

Ready to put the plan into action?

A Mumbai to Goa road trip will typically take 12 to 15 hours. This duration will depend on the number of halts one takes and also on the number of active drivers in the group. Although most of the drive is enchantingly scenic, especially once one leaves the city landscape behind, it could take a toll on the duration if a single person is driving. It is best to leave before sunrise if one wants to beat the traffic and early hours are fresh and cooler too.

The drive upto Panvel is packed with flyovers so the journey is quick and signal free. The NH17 to Goa, however is a two lane highway (being upgraded to a four lane one) and will need careful driving. If one wants to ditch one’s hatchback and drive a powerful SUV with a larger seating capacity, one could opt for a Mumbai to Goa one way cab from reputed agencies like Zoomcar. This way one could drop the vehicle in Goa and return home quickly by flight too. The choice is clearly the traveller’s!
