Piaggio Vespa launched in Noida

The Italian scooter brand, Vespa, known as the trendiest two-wheeled vehicle in the history of mankind was launched in the Uttar Pradesh market on Sunday at Neerja Automotives in Sector – 10 in Noida. The new range of Vespa scooters has come back to India after a gap of 13 years.

The new Vespa was launched in Noida by Dr. Mahesh Sharma, MLA, Noida and Chairman & Managing Director, Kailash Group of Hospitals in the presence of high officials of Vespa.

Piaggio Vehicles, a subsidiary of Piaggio Group of Italy has set up a unit in Baramati, Maharashtra to manufacture Vespa in India.

“The company initially plans to sell the timeless Vespa in the country through 50 – dealer network across 35 cities in the country. Neerja Automotives in Noida is the first sales outlet in Uttar Pradesh to sell the Piaggio Vespa Lx 125 scooter with 125cc engine specially designed for the Indian market. The model has been launched keeping European standards in mind. The scooter is priced at Rs.66,661/- Ex Maharashtra”, said Mr. Parikshat Vig, Managing Director, Neerja Automotives.

“Neerja Automotives plans to open two more Vespa outlets, one in Greater Noida and the other in Ghaziabad by the end of the current financial year 2012-13. The outlets will also sell exclusive accessories and merchandise for the fashionistas who will adorn the specially designed range to compliment the stylish Vespa. In addition, we will also help consumers to celebrate the Vespa and the pride of ownership through exclusive Vespa Clubs just the way the world does all over”, said Mr. Deepak Vig, Director, Neerja Automotives.

“We have set up manufacturing unit in Maharashtra seeing the increasing demand of two wheelers in the country. In India, Piaggio will not compete with the existing players, but will chart an entirely different course by creating an exclusive and unique segment for the brand. It will be a disruptive force in the two-wheeler scooter space and will create a multitude of opportunities for the Vespa. We are also evaluating the possibilities to launch motorcycles, 3-4 wheeled Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) customized for the Indian market”, said Mr. Sanjay Mittal, Vice President – Sales & Customer Care, Vespa.
