Peugeot to Debut in India with the New Peugeot 301

Indian motoring scene keeps getting better by the day. Rising fuel prices apart, latest generation of car buffs have every reason to appreciate the fast evolving car scene in the country. Regulars here will remember that we have been focussing on PSA Peugeot Citroen’s plans for Indian innings since quite some time now. We covered PSA’s Delhi Auto Expo stall in detail and wrote a fair bit about the Peugeot cars that might be all set to kiss the Indian tarmac.

In the latest development, it has emerged that the carmaker’s Indian inning could commence with the new Peugeot 301. While there is no official word from PSA, what else explains the guys at Peugeot sending us an offical release about the new 301? The press release that we have got from the car maker says that its new ‘family car’ is made keeping in mind demanding operating conditions like harsh climate and poor road network.

The new 301 has both petrol and diesel mills on offer that come with power ranging from 71bhp to 115bhp. The petrol motors on offer will be 3 cyl 1200cc 1600cc four pot affair while the diesel option will be that of a 1600cc motor. The car is almost 4.5 metres long and has a 2.65 metre wheelbase. The car offers a generous boot space of 506 litres. On the safety front, safely expect features like ESP, ABS, airbags, emergency brake assist, ISOFIX to come as standard on top of the line variants.

Peugeot 301 engine options:

•  1.2 liter VTi 53 kW (72 hp) one with a manual gearbox or driven

•  1.6 liter HDi 68 kW (92 hp) with manual transmission

•  1.6 liter VTi 85 kW (115 hp) with manual gearbox or automatic

The world premiere of this new Peugeot is scheduled at the Paris Motor Show and the car should come to us in 2014.
