EV startup Orxa Energies has introduced its first e-bike – the Mantis priced at Rs 3,60,000 (ex-showroom Bengaluru), inclusive of the standard 1.3kW charger. The bug-eyed Orxa Mantis offers a choice of two different colours, the Urban Black and Jungle Grey.
It’s important to note that despite its competitive edge, the electric bike, much like its rival, the Ultraviolette F77, does not qualify for the FAME 2 subsidy.
Orxa Mantis: Bookings

Bookings are open via the brand’s website, with the initial 1,000 customers requiring a booking amount of Rs 10,000, while the subsequent customers will need to pay Rs 25,000. Deliveries kick off in Bengaluru in April 2024, with the next batches scheduled for July and October 2024. Orxa assures a 3-year or 30,000km warranty covering the vehicle, battery, and motor.
Orxa Mantis: Specs & Features
The heart of the Orxa Mantis is a liquid-cooled motor generating 20.5kW peak power and 93Nm maximum torque. Claimed specs include a top speed of 135kmph and an acceleration of 8.9s from 0 to 100kmph. Featuring a non-removable IP67-rated 8.9kWh battery, the bike boasts an estimated IDC range of 221km. Charging from 0-80% with the standard 1.3kW charger takes 5 hours, but the ‘Blitz’ 3.3kW charger halves this time, both requiring a 15A socket.

Constructed with an all-aluminium aerospace-grade alloy frame and subframe, the Mantis flaunts a 41mm telescopic fork, a mono-shock with preload adjustability, and braking power facilitated by a 320mm front disc with a four-piston radial caliper and a 230mm rear disc with a single-piston floating caliper featuring single-channel ABS. Riding on 110/70-R17 front and 130/70-R17 rear Ceat Zoom radial tires, it sports a 1,450mm wheelbase, 815mm seat height, 182kg kerb weight, and 180mm ground clearance.

The Mantis operates on Orxa’s Linux-based OS, exhibiting a 5-inch TFT instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity and app-enabled navigation. Notable features include phone notifications, ride analytics on the console, all-LED lighting with twin projector LED headlights, regenerative braking, a side stand sensor, and in-house-developed ride-by-wire technology.
Official Statement
Dr Prajwal Sabnis, Co-Founder of Orxa Energies, said. “Our journey began in 2015, and we translated our vision into the first prototype of what would ultimately become the Mantis. Over the last eight years, we have worked extensively to fine-tune the design and engineering of the bike. All of which was tested and subsequently validated by riding it for thousands of kilometres on highways, city roads, and gravel tracks across the country.”
Orxa’s Future Plans
Initially, the ev maker showcased the Mantis prototype at IBW in 2019. Orxa reworked the Mantis during the pandemic, reducing its weight by over 25kg, an achievement for the Bengaluru-based EV maker. To bolster the EV ecosystem and enhance customer benefits, strategic alliances have been formed with Spare It, Bolt, and Nunam. Nunam’s end-of-life battery buyback service offers Orxa customers a 40% cost advantage. While Spare It serves as the official service partner. Bolt’s expanding network of fast-charging stations aims to ensure seamless charging experiences for Mantis owners.

“As avid EV enthusiasts and Bikers ourselves, we’re committed to fostering an ecosystem that empowers our partners and our customers. With the Mantis, we aim to empower the broader EV community. By providing access to essential resources that will drive the ecosystem’s growth and success. Throughout our development, we have prioritised the needs and desires of EV users and bikers. Thus ensuring that the Mantis embodies their aspirations. Every step we take is driven by our unwavering vision to create the bike that bikers truly want to ride. The Mantis is truly built by bikers, for bikers,” added Ranjita Ravi, Co-Founder at Orxa Energies.
