Next generation 2015 Ford Figo/Ka to be underpinned by the current car’s platform

We have been reporting a fair bit about the upcoming 2015 Ford Ka. The gen next Ford Ka will also be sold as the 2015 Ford Figo and the upcoming car is currently being tested on public roads of Europe and Brazil. As per a new report, the next gen 2015 Ford Figo will be underpinned by the same platform that underpins the current model. However, it is expected that this platform would get slight modifications before it goes on to underpin the 2015 Figo.

Worth mentioning is that the current gen Figo is based on a modified version of last gen Fiesta (Fiesta Mk5).Ford’s Head of Petrol Engine Development, Andrew Fraser, has said that shortening the old Fiesta’s platform and employing thinner-gauge steel would enable the manufacturer to lower the platform’s weight, which in turn would mean that the next gen Figo would be lighter than the current model.

The gen next Ford Ka/Figo would be a Ford Global One car and the upcoming hatchback, which has been codenamed as the B562, would sport Ford’s new design language. Various spy pics that we have seen so far suggest that the car would be similar in dimensions to the new 2014 Hyundai i10 .

The next gen 2015 Ford Figo is expected to get an EcoBoost petrol engine, along with several features such as Start/Stop button, PowerShift, et al. The next generation 2015 Ford Figo could also spawn a small sedan that would replace the older generations of Fiesta in many markets (such as that of India). This would not just give Ford an entry into the fast emerging compact sedan market, but would also allow it to eat into the sales of highly popular Hyundai HB20S and Chevrolet Prisma in Brazil and Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire and Honda Amaze in India.
