Chevrolet has finally released the final output numbers for the 2015 Corvette Z06. The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is slated to go on sale in the fourth quarter of the year.
Chevrolet unveiled the 2015 Corvette Z06 in January at the North American International Auto Show. At the unveil, the American car maker had said it offers “at least” 625 bhp (466 kW) and 635 lb-ft (861 Nm) of torque. Now, the company has released the final numbers. Powering the 2015 Corvette z06 is an all-new V8 6.2-liter LT4 supercharged engine which comes with a 1.7-liter Eaton supercharger and an intercooler. The engine churns out an impressive 650 bhp (485 kW) of max power at 6,400 rpm and 650 lb-ft (880 Nm) of torque at 3,600 rpm making it the most powerful production car ever made by General Motors.
“The new LT4 engine builds on the design strengths of our previous supercharged engine and leverages the technologies introduced on the Corvette Stingray – direct injection, cylinder deactivation and continuously variable valve timing – to take Corvette performance to an all-new plateau,” says Jordan Lee, Chief Engineer. “Our new, very compact supercharger also helps the engine make power more quickly, and perhaps more importantly, it helps produce more torque earlier in the rpm band.”
All those 650 horses of power will be sent to the wheels via a standard 6-speed manual gearbox or a newly developed 8-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission.
“The LT4 Small Block sets a new benchmark for power and torque at GM,” said Steve Kiefer, vice president, GM Powertrain Engineering. “The engine also puts the new Corvette Z06 on par with the most powerful supercars offered in America, while delivering performance with impeccable manners that make it suitable for daily driving.”
Sales of the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 are set to commence in the last quarter of 2014.
