MG Comet Gets Faster Charging and Enhanced Features

MG Motor India has launched the upgraded MG Comet priced between Rs 6.99 lakh and Rs 9.14 lakh (ex-showroom, India)

The MG Comet not only undergoes a significant overhaul of its lineup but introduces a game-changing feature – a faster 7.4kW AC charger.

Fast Charging Capabilities

The standout feature of the new MG Comet is undoubtedly its faster 7.4kW AC charger. While the exact charging time is yet to be disclosed by MG.

The introduction of a faster charger on the higher-spec Executive and Excite trims marks a significant leap forward in providing practical solutions for everyday use.

Variant Revamp

MG has not only introduced a faster charging option but also revamped the variant names. The previous Pace, Play, and Plush trims are now rebranded as Executive, Excite, and Exclusive, respectively.

Crucially, it is the Excite and Exclusive trims that get the coveted fast-charging option. While the prices for the Executive and Excite trims remain unchanged, the new Exclusive trim sees a moderate increase of Rs 20,000 compared to the outgoing Plush trim.

Competitive Pricing

In a strategic move, MG recently slashed the prices of the Comet EV by up to Rs 1.40 lakh, emphasizing the company’s commitment to making electric mobility accessible. The current pricing structure is as follows:

  • Executive: Rs 6.99 lakh
  • Excite: Rs 7.88 lakh
  • Excite FC (Fast Charging): Rs 8.24 lakh
  • Exclusive: Rs 8.78 lakh
  • Exclusive FC (Fast Charging): Rs 9.14 lakh

Feature Enhancements

Recognizing the need for continuous improvement, MG has equipped the fast-charging variants with several new features. These include rear disc brakes, an electronic parking brake, ESC (Electronic Stability Control), hill-hold control, power foldable wing mirrors finished in body color, and a creep mode.

While the top-end price sees an increase of Rs 56,000, the additional features undoubtedly enhance the overall value proposition.

Unchanged Power and Efficiency

The MG Comet EV retains its core specifications – a 17.3kWh battery delivering an ARAI-certified range of 230km. The single electric motor on the rear axle generates 42hp and 110Nm of torque, providing a responsive and efficient urban driving experience.

A Market Uniqueness

As a two-door electric urban runabout, the MG Comet EV stands out in the market. While it lacks a direct rival, the entry-level variants of the Tata Tiago EV present its closest competition, featuring a 19.2kWh battery and an ARAI-claimed range of 250km.

Our Take

The MG Comet’s introduction of a faster charger, variant renaming, and feature enhancements position the MG Comet as a formidable player in the electric vehicle arena.
