Maruti S Cross: A Recap

Being the first car to be sold by the premium Nexa outlet of Maruti, the S-Cross started its journey in August 2015. With ups and downs of its own, this premium-looking car had bought a lot to the table. Even with the practicality, solid high-speed manners, and punchy diesel engines, S-Cross was not able to reach the desired audience The 2017 S-Cross facelift featured a 1.5 Litre K-series petrol engine with Suzuki’s Smart Hybrid technology. Which produces 104.69 PS of power at 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm of torque which peaks at 4,400 rpm. It is the same engine that was seen in Brezza and Ciaz. The previous variant of S-cross was powered by a 1.3-litre diesel engine producing 90 PS power and a 1.6-litre which delivered 120 PS. Even after the updated powertrain, the S-Cross was unable to compete with rivals like Creta.

Maruti once again made a change in S-Cross in August 2020. When the diesel engine was phased out during the BS6 transition and S-Cross featured the known 1.5-liter petrol engine. Providing Maruti’s 4-speed torque converter, S-Cross managed to get some amount of response. But the market was all about diesel engines when it comes to SUVs. The S-Cross had a price range from Rs 8,95,000 to the highest of Rs 12,92,000 (ex-showroom).

Introducing the Maruti Suzuki version of the Toyota Hyryder the Vitara will soon hit the compact SUV segment. It is supposed to have a strong hybrid and all-wheel-drive option. The expected price of the Vitara is Rs 9.95 lakh (ex-showroom). The new and high-tech mid-size SUV of Maruti will compete against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kusgaq, VW Taigun, and MG Astor.
