Maruti Suzuki released a sketch of the Vitara Brezza earlier this month and according to some reports, it might be launched as soon as a month after the Auto Expo. The Vitara Brezza project has been completely undertaken by Maruti’s engineers in India, sans the involvement of Suzuki, its parent company. Code-named the YBA, it was spotted in India on various occasions in an un-camouflaged state.
Rivals to the Vitara Brezza would be the Ford Ecosport, the Mahindra TUV 300 and an upcoming sub-4 metre SUV from Hyundai. The Vitara Brezza would be positioned below the S-cross in the Maruti line-up.
Powering the Vitara Brezza would be a 1.3 litre diesel engine sourced from Fiat while the petrol variants would include a 1.4 litre and a 1.2 litre engine. Transmission duties would be performed by a 5 speed manual transmission. Expected to join in later through the vehicle’s life cycle is a CVT transmission and a SHVS micro-hybrid engine.
